Welcome to another Fresh Start Monday, where we change the narrative… Today we will be looking more closely on the concept of purpose.

When I was just a young girl, I learnt of the concept of purpose. I subsequently prayed and day-dreamed about arriving at “purpose”, a destination. As I grew and matured, I came to the realization that purpose is not just a destination, it is also a journey.
From reflection, I can appreciate why purpose is not simply a destination. Can you imagine, working all your life to get to a specific place, then all the movement stops. In the same space, day in and day out for the rest of your life? Doesn’t sound very exciting, does it? Let us also think of how dynamic life is, we are in a constant state of change. Hence it really would not be practical for purpose to be just a destination. It has to be more… I call that more, journey.
The word purpose is a noun, it speaks to the reason for which something is done or why it exists. As a noun, it can also address a person’s resolve, simply stated as what the individual has made up his/her mind to do regardless. Purpose is also a verb, which confirms that purpose is actually something we do, and it means to have as one’s intention or objective. Purpose can also be described as deliberate action.
Therefore, to do 2021… On Purpose! requires us to have a destination in mind, while we plan, act and evolve (see previous article Fresh Start Mondays – Live on Purpose) on our individual purpose journey. We will leave nothing to chance, but by deliberate actions we proceed.
How will I know my purpose? That’s a popular question faced by many. There are a few pointers that can be used as a guide.
- The manufacturer is the only person who would know the fullness of the purpose of anything he/she created.
- Purpose is usually tied to natural passions and abilities.
- Purpose is associated with problems that we see ourselves, our abilities or our creations as possible solutions.
Living on purpose requires us to have faith. Our faith is strengthened by what we believe and feed our minds. How we talk to ourselves is a good indication of our belief system. Do we believe we can make right choices? Do we believe we have what it takes to do what is required? Do we really believe the world needs us and will be greatly impacted by our lives? Faith comes by hearing, so we need to listen to those things that will help our faith to grow.
Living on purpose requires us to be bold, to be tenacious and to be audacious. Will we be bold enough to step out on our belief? Will we be tenacious enough to keep our resolve even in the midst of adversity? Will we have the audacity to represent our conviction even when there are “low-blows”?
The wind of change caused many of us to be left to the peril of chance. Many of us got to unfamiliar territory even in our homes, every sphere of life was affected. Now is the time for us to reposition ourselves, such that we are able to live fully, on purpose, even in the midst of unprecedented change.
Let us, therefore, do 2021… On Purpose! And change the narrative…

Awesome word’s of encouragement I can’t stop reading this article
I’m happy you’re encouraged!
I really like the photo you chose…very peacefully beautiful…
Sometimes people get confused when they see others living their “purpose”. You see, there’s a perception that people’s purpose is what others think or say it should be so that when the path others take does not fit into that perception, there’s confusion in the mind. As you correctly stated, we are the author of our purpose, it is our journey. What happens between the beginning and the end of that journey is up to us and no one else
