Welcome 2023

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the year 2023!

We survived! Hallelujah! The past few years have been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride, in my opinion. We have been through a pandemic and just when we thought it was over, then there comes a new outbreak. There have been wars, some of us were so on edge, wondering if world war three is upon us. And then there are those of us, who have been through disappointment, set-back, heartbreak, loss and grief, sometimes back to back.

I have had challenges in different forms myself, one after the other, there have even been times when one issue hasn’t ended before another presents itself. And I have often prayed about it and asked myself, “how do I get past all these issues so I don’t get stuck”. Stuck in disappointment, heartbreak, setbacks or grief. Then one beautiful night I was reminded of the scripture that informs us that we will suffer, but our suffering teaches us perseverance, perseverance, character and character, hope. And in that moment, it was as if it was the first time reading that scripture, I came to the stark realization that I have been living in perseverance, which is good but I need to grow pass perseverance into character, and from character, hope.

Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

Romans 5:3-5

See, many of us have patted ourselves on our shoulders because we have been persevering. Let me be clear, perseverance is good but it is just a stage. We must get to the point where we grow beyond that into character. So, this year, my aim is to go beyond perseverance, for those who have been living in perseverance like myself I encourage you to join me and live life beyond perseverance.
